Truly doesn't play most rental and high-use DVDs (but warranty service did repair)

As in days posted, this unit will NOT play rental (or even mildly scratched) DVDs. Which is a problem because a troop of our DVDs are kids movies and they get scratched with repeadted use. All the problematic DVDs play accurately fine on a cheapo ($20) DVD player but this "high-end" unit is too...

We've had this effect just a few weeks, but are quite pleased with it. The only snag was when we hooked it up to both our receiver (with RCA analog jacks)and our new HDTV (with an HDMI cablegram)so that we could play our CD's through our receiver and our DVD's through the television. I was on the hedge with this gambler, I narrowed my choices down to this Onkyo and a Predecessor Specially selected DV-58AV and ended up accepted with the Onkyo since it was slash expense and new (I could only find refurbished DV-58AV's at the together for $100 more). I'm contented to say I was not frustrated with this entertainer. It passes DSD bitstream over HDMI linear to my Onkyo Recipient (TX-SR706) and the fathom is as encomiastic as my old Sony DVP-S9000ES for SACD's, extinction DSD to a my recipient was key to this though as I found that using it's internal DAC's for SACD wasn't as meet as Sony ES SACD virtuoso.
